The project in general

soeb has been existing since 2000 and has been funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). Work is accomplished in consecutive, perennial reporting phases. In between, public workshop discussions take place in which the new reporting project is developed. For each report a new task-based research network is put together. For individual work packages or expertises, external cooperation partners are included. At the end of each phase, a report on socioeconomic development in Germany is presented. So far, two reports have been published:

  • The "First report on the socioeconomic development in Germany – Work and lifestyles" was presented at a symposium in Berlin on February 18, 2004 and published in the summer of 2005 as a revised book version.
  • The "Second report on the socioeconomic development in Germany  – Participation in transition" was presented at a symposium in Berlin on November 13, 2009 and published in the winter of 2011 as a revised book version.

As of autumn 2013, a new research network is in the process of working on a third report: soeb 3. As was the case with soeb 1 and soeb 2, the network is coordinated by the Sociological Research Institute (SOFI) and funded by the BMBF as a project in the field of social sciences and humanities. Feel free to inform yourself more in detail about the reporting approach of soeb as well as current and past reporting phases. On the website you will also find current announcements and publications of and about soeb.
